How to Store Olive Oil So It Stays Fresh
Light, heat and air slowly dull the flavour of olive oil. A few easy habits keep every bottle tasting fresh until the last drop.

Olive oil doesn't spoil like milk, but it does lose flavour and goodness over time. Three things speed that up: light, heat and air. Protect your bottle from all three and it will stay fresh much longer.
The golden rules
Follow these simple habits at home:
- Close the cap tightly after every use
- Store the bottle in a cool, dark cupboard, not next to the stove
- Keep it away from windowsills and direct sunlight
- Choose a bottle size you will finish within a few months
- Never let water get inside the bottle
How long does it last?
An unopened bottle is best enjoyed within about 18 months of bottling. Once opened, try to use it within 3 to 6 months while the flavour is at its brightest. Always check the date printed on the label.
Cloudy in winter? Don't worry
In cold weather extra virgin olive oil can turn cloudy or even partly solid. This is completely natural and doesn't affect the quality or taste. Leave the bottle at room temperature and it will turn clear again. There is no need to heat it.
